Why is my dryer not working?

One of the top questions we get from homeowners in Wesley Chapel, Land O Lakes, Lutz, New Tampa, Odessa and surrounding Tampa Bay area neighborhoods is "Why is my dryer not working?"

Below are some sample questions we might ask the homeowner to address their concern prior to scheduling the dryer vent cleaning appointment:

1. Is the dryer getting hot and tumbling the laundry?

2. Is the dryer giving you a specific error code (ie: D-80) and shutting off prior to finishing?

3. Are there any burning smells coming from the dryer?

4. Do you notice more heat and humidity in the laundry than normal while the dryer is operating?

If the dryer is not operating at all, doesn't get hot at all, or the tumbler doesn't spin, or if there is a burning smell when it's turned on, we generally recommend that the homeowner disconnect the dryer from it's electric source, and refrain from using it until contacting an appliance repair professional. Often, in these cases, the dryer may require repair, and additionally, the dryer vent should also be professionally inspected and cleaned prior to using again.
